What is this "gluten" anyway?

Gluten is proteins found in wheat, rye, barley and triticale, which is a cross between wheat and rye. You can think of gluten as like a glue, glue that holds food together. When you think of it that way, it doesn't sound that appealing, except to maybe a 4 year old kid who's a fan of chugging Elmers.


Wheat stands out as the most common source of gluten, so in other words, wheat is enemy #1.


Most people are lucky and can tolerate gluten, but those who have celiac disease, a gluten sensitivity, a wheat allergy, or other conditions will experience negative side effects when consumed.
